Mercury V10 Verado outboards gain new 425hp engine and upgrade

Mercury Marine now offers two new V10 Verado outboard engines with seriously enhanced performance.

Mercury Marine, a division of Brunswick Corporation, has introduced a new V10 425 hp Verado outboard engine and an upgraded version of its V10 350 hp Verado model.

The new 425 hp engine aims to deliver better acceleration, reduced weight, and increased electrical output. According to Mercury’s own sea trials, the new Verado is three seconds faster from 0 to 30 mph than a 450 hp competitor on a heavily loaded 26-footer weighing 5,000 lbs. It is also 254 pounds lighter than the same 450 hp competitor and operates at 22 percent lower noise levels at cruise. The engine is equipped with a 150-amp alternator, which Mercury states is the highest output in its class.

Mercury has also upgraded its existing 350 hp Verado. The new version delivers a 2.7 mph higher top speed than a 350 hp competitor in light-load conditions, as well as improved acceleration: four seconds faster from 0 to 30 mph and nearly 18 seconds faster from 0 to top speed in heavy-load configurations. It also produces four times more alternator output at cruise than the 350 hp competitor and is 40 percent quieter at cruise. Compared to Mercury’s current 350 hp model, it provides 15 percent quicker acceleration from 0 to 50 mph due to enhanced mid-range torque.

Both engines share Mercury’s V10 platform and are fully compatible with existing installations, including boats previously equipped with L6 Verado engines or similar outboards from other manufacturers.

Digital Throttle & Shift is included as standard on both the new 425hp and the upgraded 350hp engines. Joystick piloting is also available.
