«This Is It». Said Tassos Papanastasiou, the owner of this Tecnomar multihull, after seeing the first sketch of the yacht. He rejected all previous designs for being too boring and mundane. Even though The Italian Sea Group — Tecnomar, Admiral, Picchiotti, Perini Navi — are anything but boring (think Admiral Geco superyacht of Giorgio Armani and the Tecnomar for Lamborghini speedboat as examples), This Is It was a challenge even for them. At the very least, it is a multihull, a type of the yacht none of these shipyards had ever built before. As a result, the 43.5 metre Tecnomar This Is It breaks all the moulds. And does it beautifully.
The exterior design of This Is It is done by Tecnomar, with the naval architecture from Lateral Naval Architects. Softly curved exterior lines are inspired by marine mammals, while the flowing arc profile challenges established standards in yacht design. The radical cat features an asymmetrical layout and 600 square metres of curved glass enveloping the superstructure. Floor-to-ceiling windows wash out the boundaries between the yacht’s interior and the surrounding environment, fostering a closer connection with nature and providing breathtaking views.
This Is It is a huge vessel with a gross tonnage of 758 GT. So the designers had plenty of space to play with. The ultra-modern interior was designed by Mattia Piro and Gian Marco Campanino of The Italian Sea Group. Inspired by the architecture and interiors of private residences and luxury cars, they combined alcantara, natural wood, crystal, stainless steel, bronze and precious metals such as platinum and gold to create a refined and sophisticated environment.
Gian Marco Campanino describes the concept as to create an architectural object on the water. Hence the asymmetrical design and a complete getaway from how yachts are commonly designed. This Is It could be watched forever, each new glance clinging to another unusual detail. You can't always tell exactly where one room ends and another begins — spaces flow into each other so imperceptibly. This is largely due to the fact that the whole interior is divided into asymmetrical and angular zones altering the perception of space from what is used to be seen on yachts. Onboard This Is It, it feels like the laws of space — and time, for that matter — are no longer relevant.
The main salon of This Is It has a bar and a TV lounge clad in textured leather, designed to resemble an elephant’s skin. The bar is lit by a quirky crystal chandelier that resembles a sparkling looping rollercoaster track. The circular dining table for 12 is placed under a ceiling structure resembling a moon crater or volcano with a light fixture embedded in it.
The owner's suite on the upper deck boasts a spectacular 3.3 metre ceiling height. In addition, there is a triangular ceiling skylight. It fills the room with light during the day and allows to admire the stars while lying in bed at night. The owner has a private walkout terrace, which overlooks the sea and the deck below and gives the feeling of being in a seaside villa. In the master suite bathroom, the freestanding double washbasin in marble faces a huge window and two mirrors seem to be floating in the air.
Another impressive feature of This Is It is of course the futuristic wheelhouse, which could serve as a perfect setting for a Star Trek episode. The command post with panoramic views and large touch panels is reminiscent of a starship control centre from a space saga.
This Is It boasts a luxurious vertical garden that spans two floors, as well as an upper deck spa with a treatment area, sauna and shower. The yacht is complete with the latest models of water toys and tenders including a 15 metre Technohull RIB, a 6 metre Castoldi tender, Seabob and jet skis.
This Is It is powered by twin MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines, giving her a top speed of 19 knots, a cruising speed of 17 knots and a range of 3,500 nautical miles at 10 knots. The hulls have been optimised for hydrodynamic efficiency, significantly reducing fuel consumption and emissions. In compliance with IMO Tier III requirements, the catamaran is equipped with a state-of-the-art SCR exhaust treatment system to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions.
According to Giovanni Constantino, General Manager of The Italian Sea Group, this yacht was made possible by the combination of a very forward-thinking customer with a vision and the ability of Tecnomar, as an equally progressive brand, to fulfil his demands. For the owner Tasos Papanastasiou, the Cyprus resident and founder of the XM Forex platform, this is not the first custom yacht. But he has never built anything like this before.
As of today, the yacht is available for charters in the Mediterranean.
