Dutch shipyard Zeelander Yachts has handed over the keys to the latest iteration of its 24 m Zeelander 8 model. Christened Solea, this third hull has already made a name for itself, clocking an impressive 40 knots during sea trials—a performance that firmly establishes it as the most powerful and fastest vessel in the series to date.

Currently en route from the builder’s facility in Groot-Ammers, Solea is set to make her public debut at the 2026 Monaco Yacht Show. However, her real story begins not with a blank design slate, but with the deep-seated preferences of a returning client.

A Brief Shaped by Real-World Use

The owner of Solea is no stranger to the brand, having previously spent weeks at a time living, working, and resting aboard a Zeelander 7 without permanent crew. This intimate familiarity with the model guided the project’s brief, which called for preserving the cherished qualities of the smaller yacht while significantly expanding the social and living spaces for longer voyages.

Zeelander founder Sietse Koopmans highlighted how this direct user experience shaped the project, noting that the result is one of the most customized builds the yard has undertaken.

Visually, Solea distinguishes herself from her sisterships, Silver Dawn and Mojo, through a bold aesthetic choice. While earlier hulls featured lighter finishes, this new vessel sports a dark metallic grey exterior that accentuates the model’s sleek, low-profile lines.

Crafted for Entertainment and Relaxation

The owner’s background with the Zeelander 7 is most apparent inside, where the interior focus was diverted to maximizing hospitality and comfort. The main salon is anchored by a substantial dining table—the heart of onboard social life—while the galley remains fully integrated within the living area to keep the host connected with guests.

A hallmark of the Zeelander design, the curved sliding window, effortlessly merges the salon with the aft cockpit, enhancing the flow of the main deck. In a notable shift from previous layouts, the conventional bar has been replaced by a large, sheltered L-shaped sofa, a design cue inspired directly by the owner’s preferred seating on his previous yacht.

The material palette is equally distinctive. The interiors are finished extensively with Swamp oak, a rare timber reclaimed from riverbeds that has developed a near-black hue after decades underwater. This is artfully paired with premium leathers and Porsche Agate accents, creating a sophisticated and richly textured atmosphere that sets this yacht apart from its predecessors.

Performance That Blends Power with Silence

At the core of Solea's exceptional speed is a quad-engine configuration featuring Volvo Penta IPS-1350s, delivering a combined 4,000 horsepower. This setup not only drives the yacht to its record 40-knot top speed but does so with remarkable composure, maintaining an interior noise level of just 65dBA—a testament to the yard's engineering prowess.

The yacht is also a capable long-distance cruiser, offering a range of approximately 630 nautical miles at a swift 32-knot cruise. When efficiency takes priority, dropping to a seven-knot displacement speed extends that range to an impressive 2,700 nautical miles.

Beyond her performance credentials, Solea is outfitted for adventure with a Williams 435 jet tender and an array of water toys, including Seabobs and flyboards. Her flexible accommodation plan ensures she is equally adept at hosting intimate family getaways or operating with a full crew, making her a versatile platform for the discerning owner.
