Introducing Elan SixtyFive – A next-generation sailing yacht from Elan Yachts

The high-performance cruiser is inspired by the racing concepts of IMOCA.
Six months after announcing a pause in the production of sailing yachts, Slovenian shipyard Elan Yachts is making a strong comeback to the market with a major new model. The Elan SixtyFive will be the first in a new line of sailing yachts (with future plans for larger 70- and 80-foot models) designed to replace the discontinued smaller cruising yachts previously aimed at the mass market.

With dimensions of 21.35 meters in length, 19.41 meters at the waterline, and a beam of 4.99 meters, the Elan SixtyFive offers space for three comfortable guest cabins and one for the skipper. The involvement of the renowned J&J Design studio and Guillaume Verdier, one of the most celebrated designers in the IMOCA class and America's Cup, signals a serious focus on speed and performance.

The hull, made from carbon-epoxy resin, will be constructed using vacuum infusion followed by curing. Sandwich composite elements will also be extensively used, even in the internal bulkheads. As a result, the yacht will be exceptionally lightweight, with an estimated dry weight of 17 tons and a fully loaded weight of approximately 21 tons.

Drawing on lessons from IMOCA racing yachts, the developers of the Elan SixtyFive have optimized the hull shape for rapid planing. The sail plan includes a 106% jib (109 sqm), a mainsail (147 sqm), a Code Zero (171 sqm), and an asymmetric spinnaker (366 sqm), enabling speeds of up to 14 knots.

A forged steel keel with a draft of 3.5 meters and twin rudders will ensure excellent stability and maneuverability. The yacht will also feature a 110-horsepower Yanmar engine, solar panels, a lithium-ion battery, and a hydrogenerator. Even with a small crew, the yacht will remain easy to handle thanks to digital load control systems and an IMOCA-developed autopilot.

The SixtyFive will be certified to Class A (Ocean), making it a maxi performance cruiser designed for unrestricted navigation. Owners will even have the option to participate in ocean racing if desired.

The first hull is scheduled to hit the water in 2027.
