Triumphant trio

The new SDX 230 from Sea Ray comes in three configurations, and the 2026 models get a bunch of new options.

What happens when an unstoppable thirst for adventure meets cutting-edge technology? You get a boat that has instantly won the hearts of yachting enthusiasts for its stylish design and ability to fit perfectly into any scenario.

"The SDX 230 is a great fit for boaters who are looking to expand their adventures on the water without sacrificing the ease of trailering, storage and versatility. Paired with premium amenities and impressive performance, this multipurpose boat has it all,” said Keith Yunger, Sea Ray president.

With this model, the SDX lineup continues its evolution. Sea Ray is clearly targeting a young, active audience by offering the new model in not just two configurations—stern drive and outboard motors, as before—but in three, adding a Surf version. Of course, watersports purists might argue that this isn’t a dedicated wake boat. However, if you're not a professional and are just looking to have a great weekend on the water, this boat has more than enough to offer. And even if you are a seasoned pro, the SDX 230 won't disappoint.

We’ll focus on the Surf version, as many features included in the standard configuration are also available as options for the regular stern-drive model. You can opt for the full surf package or select individual features and equipment to suit your needs.

The transom of the Sea Ray SDX 230 Surf is like having your own personal beach. A spacious platform with soft SeaDek flooring, reminiscent of warm sand underfoot, is perfect for relaxing after a swim or gearing up for water adventures. With just a few movements, a step unfolds to help you climb out of the water with ease. Additionally, a telescopic ladder is available for extra convenience. A freshwater shower provides a refreshing rinse after a dip in the sea. And as the cherry on top, you can control the music right from the transom. Waves lapping, sunshine, and your favourite tracks—what more could you want for ultimate enjoyment?

Just ahead of the platform is a large sunbed with an adjustable headrest, upholstered in high-quality marine vinyl by default. A control panel on the gunwale lets you manage the music and lighting system with ease. There’s also a USB port to keep your phone charged at all times. The passage to the cockpit is offset to the starboard side, with storage space underneath. A refrigerator can be installed here, so you can enjoy cool drinks while lounging on the sunbed. The left section of the sunbed lifts to reveal access to the battery.

The cockpit layout is meticulously designed to provide maximum comfort and functionality. It easily accommodates a large group of friends or the whole family. A plush sofa runs along the port side in an L-shape. The adjustable armrest doubles as the backrest for the forward-facing seat. Slide it forward, and the sofa gains more seating space. Storage compartments are built into the base of the sofa, perfect for stowing clothes and sports gear. A removable table (optional) can be set up for a picnic on the water or taken down to free up space. The premium Fusion stereo system with Bluetooth is ready for your playlist, offering crystal-clear sound. Beneath your feet is the same soft, durable, and easy-to-clean SeaDek flooring. Another refrigerator can be concealed under the seat—because what’s a day on the water without ice-cold drinks?

The helm station is designed with modern aesthetics and equipped with everything you need for comfort and safety. An adjustable captain’s chair ensures excellent visibility and ergonomic seating. The dashboard features analogue switches and two 9-inch NSX displays from Simrad, providing all essential information about the engine and vessel status (the second display is optional in the standard configuration). The steering wheel, with power assist, offers smooth and precise handling. The boat is powered by an operating system with Sea Ray's exclusive surf interface, featuring three preset modes for different activities. A rearview mirror mounted on the windscreen allows the captain to monitor the rider performing tricks. An optional head compartment can be added to the left side of the helm console.

The bow area is another spot where you can relax and soak up the sun. A soft sofa wraps around the perimeter, complete with built-in cupholders. Lower the table and cover it with a cushion to create a deep lounging space for sunbathing or a playpen for kids. Each section of the sofa has a spacious storage compartment underneath. Additionally, an extra refrigerator is available. Lazy moments are made even better—you won’t have to go back to the cockpit for a drink.

An optional four-step bow ladder can be added for easy boarding from a dock.

The sports version comes standard with a tower that features four board racks and an electric lift. When passing under low bridges, you can lower it to the top of the windscreen with the press of a button. Two canopies extend from the tower to cover the bow and cockpit, ensuring most of the deck is protected from rain or harsh sunlight.

The SDX 230 Surf is equipped with the Sea Ray NextWave system—a fully integrated wakesurfing solution designed for riders of all skill levels. Built to generate consistent, powerful waves, the system includes over 450 litres of ballast, electric surf plates, and an active trim system for a personalised experience. The Smart Tow function maintains a set boat speed, adjusting engine RPM based on weather and water conditions.

The standard SDX 230 is powered by a 250-horsepower 4.5L Mercury MerCruiser MPI engine with a Bravo Three drive. However, the Surf version gets an even more powerful option. The 6.2L MerCruiser MPI ECT engine delivers 350 horsepower, paired with a forward-facing Bravo Four S drive and counter-rotating props. This engine impresses with its torque and acceleration, reaching a maximum of 5000–5400 RPM. The adaptive speed control system ensures stable RPM even during sharp turns, keeping the boat under control without excessive throttle adjustments. The engine runs quietly with minimal vibration. Thanks to the intake resonator and throttle body directed toward the stern, engine noise is barely noticeable in the cabin. The Bravo Four S drive enhances manoeuvrability, especially at low speeds, by improving water grip with its forward-facing props. The SmartCraft DTS (Digital Throttle & Shift) system simplifies boat handling and optimises fuel efficiency.

For those who prefer outboard motors, the 230 SDX OB version is available with a single 200- or 250-horsepower Mercury four-stroke engine.

Customers can personalise their boat with a variety of optional packages. The Entertainment package includes four wireless charging stations, a transom remote control, and an upgraded audio system. The Comfort package features a bow table and filler cushion. The Starter package offers SeaDek flooring for the swim platform, bow and transom canopies, and a stylish two-tone exterior finish. The lighting package includes above-water LED lighting with colour-changing options and underwater lights.

These 23 feet of pure joy are made for those who value moments spent with family and friends, whether it’s leisurely cruises under the warm sun, high-speed swims, or thrilling turns on water skis and wakeboards. Want to bask in the sun without a care? The three Sea Ray SDX 230 configurations are ready to support your every adventure.
